New Life Cafe is a licensed restaurant and catering business that offers a full line of specialty coffees, smoothies, paninis, baked goods and authentic Boriquen cuisine.
However, the mission of New Life Cafe is much deeper than a cup of cafe con leche!
This business serves as a social enterprise to alleviate costs for the Chicago Dream Center while creating new opportunities for the community. The cafe offers job readiness, hands on experience and fundamental employment training. Participants gain employable skills in food service and sanitation while becoming marketable in today’s economy.
At the heart of it, the goal of the cafe is to embody the mission of the CDC. We hope that as the cafe becomes profitable, it will help fund the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Dream Center. As the first business venture of the Dream Center, we hope to one day begin many more small businesses that align the skills of residents with the needs of the community. In this way, the Chicago Dream Center is actively working toward becoming self-sufficient…just like we challenge our participants to do!
